Securing wind energy: Kooi UFOs prove their worth at Nordex projects in Spain

Nordex completes projects with Kooi's advanced surveillance solutions

As the year concludes, many wind farm construction projects across Europe are nearing completion. In Spain, Nordex has finalized projects in Castile-La Mancha, Navarre, and Soria, prompting Kooi Spain to withdraw its Units For Observation (UFOs) for maintenance and redeployment. “The UFO from Kooi is a highly effective and cost-efficient solution,” says Manuel Angel Fernandez, responsible for coordinating Nordex projects and facilities in Spain.

Kooi's mobile surveillance units secured Nordex construction sites 24/7, with the Kooi Alarm Center on standby for intrusions. Two UFO Mediums and a Powerbox generator safeguarded the Gecama 312MW onshore wind power project in Castile-La Mancha, where 65 turbines will provide clean energy for 260,000 households. In Navarre’s Windpark Orkoien, a UFO Hybrid and Medium ensured the security of storage areas and the main crane. Fernandez notes, “We rely on the Kooi UFO to secure high-value assets efficiently.”

Versatile and Effective Solutions

Recently, two UFO Mediums and two Powerboxes enabled the REA Unificado wind project in Soria to meet its commissioning deadline. Nordex installed nine turbines here for RWE. Fernandez appreciates the UFO's adaptability and simplicity: “They’re cost-effective, easy to implement, and highly reliable.” While many sites in Spain use security guards, Fernandez finds them insufficient: “Security guards are more preventive than effective. Combining guards with UFO systems enhances project security.” He adds, “We haven’t experienced any significant incidents in Kooi-guarded areas.”
