Smooth construction process thanks to mobile camera surveillance at Vestas wind farm

In the German town of Tungerloh-Gescher, Vestas built four impressive wind turbines last year, each standing 190 metres tall with a rotor span of 65 metres. A project of this scale requires not only precision but also optimal safety. Project manager Age van der Heide wanted to prevent theft or vandalism from causing delays, so he enlisted Kooi Camera Surveillance to secure the site.

A trusted partnership in the energy sector

Kooi has been a security partner for Vestas for many years, supporting a wide range of projects across Europe. In Tungerloh-Gescher too, the mobile camera units provided a reliable and flexible security system. During the installation phase, it was clear how many valuable materials, road plates and equipment were present on site.

Before construction began, Sales Manager Patrick de Leeuw visited the location to assess the risks accurately. “By seeing in advance where the access roads are and what the site looks like, we can determine exactly which systems are needed and how to position them best.” For this project, two UFO Prime systems were chosen. They were positioned in such a way that they not only monitored the entire perimeter but also partially detected each other. This eliminated blind spots and ensured maximum coverage, which is essential for a large and open site like a wind farm.

Adapting to the construction process

Throughout the different phases of the project, the site was constantly changing. Project Manager Lippe Kleinhuis from Kooi, who works with our clients in the energy sector, ensured that the cameras were always optimally adjusted to the ongoing activities. A good example was when a large crane had to be relocated. Lippe visited the site to reposition the cameras so that all valuable components remained within the detection area.

“We remain involved at all times and adjust the security setup as soon as the project changes. This way, we maintain continuous visibility on safety,” says Lippe.

Insight and control with the 247Kooi app

That involvement is also clearly felt by Vestas. Age van der Heide actively uses the 247Kooi app during the project. “We often work overtime on site. With the app, we can easily adjust the security schedules and view reports. This allows me to see exactly what has happened and how Kooi responded when an intruder was detected. It’s reassuring to know that someone is always keeping an eye on things.”

Thanks to the collaboration between Vestas and Kooi Camera Surveillance, the construction of the wind farm in Tungerloh-Gescher was completed safely and on schedule. The combination of expert advice, flexible deployment of mobile camera surveillance and direct communication via the app made all the difference. “At Kooi, they really listen to what we need.
