When a large wind turbine project is launched, there is a lot at stake. Expensive materials, specialized tools, and heavy cranes must be secured, while the work itself needs to proceed without interruptions. For Siemens Gamesa, which is building a wind farm with 21 turbines in Bruzaholm, Sweden, protecting the construction site against unwanted visitors was crucial. That is why the company chose to collaborate with Kooi and install a flexible camera surveillance solution, providing both safety and efficiency on a daily basis. “With Kooi we can focus on the work without constantly worrying about theft or interruptions,” says Micki.

Wind energy at the highest level

As one of the world’s leading providers of sustainable energy solutions, Siemens Gamesa manages the entire Bruzaholm project – from transport and installation to commissioning. To ensure progress, the company has placed three of Kooi’s mobile surveillance units in the areas where activity and value are highest. “It makes perfect sense to monitor right here,” says Micki, Site Manager at Siemens Gamesa.

Theft can cost millions…

Micki has previously experienced just how vulnerable construction sites in Sweden and Finland can be. Cables and tools are attractive targets for thieves, and the consequences of a break-in go far beyond the value of what is stolen.

“If we lose tools or materials, everything comes to a standstill. And that is far more expensive than the equipment itself. A crane costs a fortune to keep idle for a day – and that’s only the crane. If the entire project stops, we’re talking tens of thousands of euros per day,” Micki explains.

For Siemens Gamesa, it’s therefore not just about protecting physical objects. A single theft could potentially delay the entire project and lead to enormous extra costs. Kooi’s cameras provide crucial peace of mind – they reduce the risk of break-ins and help ensure the work can continue without unnecessary interruptions.

Safety and flexibility with Kooi

Micki had positive experiences with Kooi’s solutions before and therefore also chose Kooi for Bruzaholm. The decision was not only about the technology, but also the close contact and practical support in daily operations.

“What makes the difference for me is the service. Kees from Kooi has been on site several times, training my team on how to use and move the cameras. He made sure everything worked, followed up along the way, and called if anything came up. That gives peace of mind,” Micki shares.

One of the big advantages, according to Micki, is flexibility. The cameras can easily be moved as work shifts to the next turbine, ensuring security keeps pace with the project. This way, the most vulnerable areas are continuously secured, without Siemens Gamesa having to invest in additional equipment. It gives peace of mind and allows the team to focus on the job at hand.

The digital aspect also plays an important role. Through Kooi’s app, Micki can keep track of what’s happening on-site – even when he’s at the office. “I often log in to see what’s going on. It gives me an overview and assurance that everything is in order,” he explains. In addition, he receives a weekly activity report every Monday, ensuring that no one has had unauthorized access.

Solar-powered Titan cameras save time and resources

To secure the site under the best possible operating conditions, Siemens Gamesa chose to use Kooi’s latest camera unit, Titan. All three Titan cameras on-site are equipped with solar panels, which significantly reduces the need for refueling. “We only had to fill them up once. Without the solar panels, we would need to do it every week. That saves us a huge amount of time and work,” Micki says.

With solar power, Siemens Gamesa avoids sending workers every week to refuel generators. That time can instead be spent on core tasks, resulting in both economic and practical benefits in the long run. As Micki summarizes: “Getting my colleagues to spend time on that, plus all the extra logistics – we don’t have to deal with it anymore. It makes a huge difference in daily operations.”

Beyond saving time and money, solar power also reduces fuel consumption – a greener choice that supports Siemens Gamesa’s sustainable profile.

Reliable delivery and top-level service

Although a longer delivery time was initially expected, Siemens Gamesa received the cameras faster than planned. “That was a positive surprise, and everything has run smoothly ever since,” Micki notes.

He emphasizes that working with Kooi is different from other suppliers:
“With many suppliers, you only hear from them at delivery. But Kooi follows up and is present all the way. That makes a huge difference.”

Recommendation for the industry

For Siemens Gamesa, the decision comes down to security, flexibility, and progress. The ability to rent the cameras, move them as needed, and access them via the app makes the solution both practical and effective.

“It may seem like a lot of money to spend on surveillance. But once you’ve experienced a theft, it’s nothing compared to the losses it can cause. I would definitely recommend Kooi to other projects,” Micki concludes.
