Fire or scalding on site or in a plant can have disastrous consequences for a company. Think shut-down processes, property damage, environmental problems or even danger to personnel. For companies in sectors such as waste management and recycling, this is not a theoretical risk, but a daily reality.
Back to overviewPrevention and quick detection are therefore not a luxury, but pure necessity. A perfect example of this is EMR Amsterdam: ‘In our sector, you definitely don't want a fire,’ says depot manager Martijn Vens. ‘Not only because of the direct damage, but also because of the impact on your people, your production and the environment.’ And that risk is real: a lithium battery in the material can quickly cause major problems.
Sales manager Harry Kooistra comes across the floor of such companies every day, where fire and scalding risks are the order of the day. He sees with his own eyes what the impact can be - and also how much worry it causes entrepreneurs or safety managers. ‘What I like about my work?’ he says. ‘That I can really mean something. Not with a standard story, but by listening carefully and thinking together about how we can reduce risks. It's great to see that clients really benefit from that.’
Harry works as a sales manager and safety expert for Kooi Benelux within the fire and fire detection solution. Over three years ago, he saw a vacancy at Kooi come along. In the early days, the RED team consisted of just three people, now grown to a team of six. Other countries where Kooi operates are also growing fast. ‘I came in contact with Kooi and immediately saw the power of these solutions. RED really appealed to me personally, because fire detection plays an essential role in risk management for companies.’
Harry is busy every day advising companies on the deployment of fire detection, with the freedom to take his own approach. In particular, his goal is to reduce fire risks at companies. ‘I like the challenge and the freedom to do my job my way. In doing so, Kooi is an ambitious company, and that is hugely motivating.’
At Kooi, personal contact is hugely important. ‘We make sure we are close to the customer to understand their problem in the most detailed way possible. We believe that's where we can make the difference, because every situation is obviously different,’ says Harry.
Furthermore, Kooi stands out in the market by having everything in-house: from R&D and development to installation and follow-up from the control room. ‘You often see with these kinds of complex solutions that different links are outsourced, so customers have to deal with several parties. At Kooi, there is always one fixed contact person, which ensures clarity and quick action.’ In addition, Kooi invests heavily in personal customer contact. Instead of remote advice, specialists visit the customer on site. ‘We really want to understand the customer's problem and offer the best solution. That makes Kooi solution-oriented and customer-focused.’
’ We literally have eyes on the ground now, always. That gives peace of mind as well as security. And should there be anything, we are there in time.’ Martijn Vens, EMR Amsterdam
