Back to overviewAs Sales Manager Wind Danish Jens Ole Bentzon walks untravelled paths to discover new markets for Kooi in Europe. The Baltics, Poland, Serbia and Romania, it's familiar territory by now. “People do business with people so it’s always valuable to be there as often as you can.”
Jens Ole quotes the example of the VIFOR-project of Vestas, north-east of capital Bucharest that the Units For Observation help securing. “In Romania constructors are not only expected to build wind turbines or solar farms but also to build the roads, substations and powerlines. For us it means bigger projects to secure and ensure progression without costly delay.”
Vestas, Nordex, Siemens, Enercon and a dozen of sub-suppliers, Danish sales specialist Jens Ole switches smoothly between several clients in one week. His focus lies in the wind- and solar-projects all over the UK and Ireland but also upcoming markets like the Baltics and Balkans. “In doing so we really focus on meeting our clients as much as we can,” Jens Ole reflects. “I like to follow up on projects and meet new clients as well. When you visit projects you also get to know new people. People do business with people so it’s always valuable to be there.”
But, new markets mean new rules, new regulations and… new country peculiarities. Jens Ole: “In Romania each construction project demands a mandatory risk assessment. The owner of the windpark has to do this and deliver it to the local police. Our first project with Vestas in Romania, they did their homework and hired an external security consultant who knows the country. Now we have a close cooperation with him. It’s so important to have partners like this.”
In Eastern Europe most constructors in wind and solar use manguards to protect the sites against thieves and vandals. “But I feel more comfortable when we use our camera in addition to these manguards,” Jens Ole states. “Romania for instance, is a high risk area so then we'd better not leave anything to chance.”
This way of working clearly pays off with Kooi having dozens of UFO’s on projects throughout Eastern Europe and the Balkans. “It’s always the sale that gives me the kick. The best time to close a deal is on a Friday afternoon when you are on your way back home for the weekend,” Jens Ole confesses. He cites a recent example. “You are just thinking about Kooi and driving to your neighbor to have a beer. And then the purchase manager of Vestas calls you about a project in Croatia and asks us to secure it. Well, I sang the whole way back and took two beers that day.”
