As Safety & Security Officer, Sterre Dikland is responsible for safeguarding safety within Kooi—both digitally and operationally. In an organization that works daily with camera footage, customer data, and other sensitive information, that’s a crucial role.

From the head office in Drachten, Sterre ensures that Kooi continues to meet all relevant safety standards and required certifications. “I initially focused on information security and our important certification for the alarm center,” Sterre explains, “but by now, other safety aspects have also become part of my responsibilities, including VCA.”

“The best part of my job is that I make a difference. I help keep Kooi safe so others can do their work properly. That makes me proud.”

Sterre is 24 years old, born and raised in Franeker, and recently returned to her hometown. “I lived in Groningen for a while, but I’ve now bought a house in Franeker. I’m busy renovating it,” she says. In her free time, she enjoys reading and walking — “that gives me energy and helps me fully focus on my work again.”

The road to Kooi

After completing her Integrated Safety Studies degree, Sterre knew she wanted to work in the field of safety. She worked briefly at other companies but missed a sense of purpose. “I had to really dive into customers’ private lives, which I didn’t enjoy. I wanted to work on something bigger.”

When she heard about Kooi through a former classmate, she was immediately enthusiastic. “Kooi is young, growing, and warm. It’s open to people who are just starting out you really get a chance here. That appealed to me right away, and I’ve never regretted it.”

“At Kooi, you’re given the space to learn and grow. You’re allowed to make mistakes, to be yourself, and there’s always someone who thinks along with you. It’s not just a workplace, it’s a place where you truly belong.”

Safety as second nature

At Kooi, Sterre ensures that both people and sensitive information are well protected. “We handle a lot of sensitive data, including camera footage, customer information, and employee records. I monitor whether everything remains secure, whether we meet all requirements, and whether we’re ready for audits. I make sure that both physical and digital risks are properly managed.

Because of that, no day is ever the same one day I’m writing policies, the next I’m solving incidents.”

Continuing to grow

Kooi is expanding rapidly. “We’re opening more and more offices across Europe, each with its own rules. That makes my work both challenging and educational. I learn something new every day.”

Ambitions

“I want to keep developing myself in the field of safety and ensure that everyone can work as safely as possible — both physically and digitally.”
