Meet Roxanne Velasquez, Sales Manager for infrastructure projects in Iberia. She recently joined Kooi Spain with her bright and energetic appearance. “Currently I am the only woman in the Spanish equipeand I’m really proud of that. I’m passionate, curious, and I believe in building trust through honesty and empathy.”
‘A day without laughter, is a lost day,’ definitely applies to Roxanne. And so she immediately sums up a funny anecdote. “One time I went to install a UFO, and when the site manager asked for my name, he immediately played the song ‘Roxanne’ by the Police over the construction site’s loudspeakers across the whole site! We all had a good laugh.”
Listening to clients’ needs
For a Sales Manager it’s all about communication with the customer. Roxanne: “My days are always different, but they usually involve client meetings, project follow-ups, and lots of communication with our internal teams. I spend a lot of time listening to clients' needs, understanding their challenges, and helping them find the right security solution whether it’s for a highway, a bridge, or a construction site.”
Transparent and respectful
During her career Roxanne worked in all kinds of roles specifically in technical sales and product management. Mainly in passive fire protection. So the transfer to the mobile camera surveillance systems of Kooi was no giant leap. “Kooi is fast-moving, collaborative, and people-focused. You feel like you're part of something important,” she says. And the first talks made her extra determined to get started. “The process was transparent, respectful, and professional from the first call. I felt seen, understood, and valued—and that made all the difference.”
Essential for protection
In the meantime Roxanne has visited lots of clients so she pretty much knows how they experience the Unit For Observation. “Usually, clients are very satisfied with our system. I love showing them the videos of intruders entering the site and then running away as soon as the system is activated. That’s when they truly realize how essential it is to have their site protected.”
Kooi: a Dutch company
When introducing her work and employer to new customers, it’s crystal clear that Kooi is not from Iberia. So what does Roxanne tell them? “I say: I work for a Dutch company that prevents incidents on construction sites and infrastructure projects through smart mobile surveillance. I help clients in Spain and Portugal keep their sites safe 24/7,” she counters right away with a big smile.
People who care
Although Kooi is growing fast, and with it also Kooi Videovigilancia in Spain, there’s still this family vibe in the company that also Roxanne appreciates very much. “Even though I work remotely from Spain, I feel the warmth and support every time I connect with a colleague. People genuinely care. There’s always someone willing to help or simply ask how your day is going.”
Road trips
Of course there’s also time for relaxation and charging up the battery for new projects to come. Roxanne likes to spend her free time near the see or going to the gym. “And I love road trips,” she adds. “Being active and outdoors helps me to recharge and stay focussed.”
Recharged and focussed Roxanne will use all her energy to make Spanish infra-projects a bit bit more safe. Together with her male team mates of course. And the real reward doesn't even allow itself to be monetized.“Seeing the real impact of what we do. Knowing that our solutions help prevent theft and damage gives a lot of meaning to my work.”
Last recommendation
And would she recommend Kooi to other sales enthusiasts looking for a challenging twist in their career? She smiles: “Definitely yes—in fact, I already did! It’s a team of people who believe in what they do and support each other along the way.”
