For Ruben van der Leij, business relationships are anything but cold and impersonal. The young sales manager firmly believes in building strong, personal connections with his clients in the solar industry. “In every meeting, I genuinely want to create a bond.”
We’re on our way to Solar Park Overbetuwe, located roughly between Valburg and Ressen. Here, ProfiNRG is constructing a 72-hectare, 8-kilometer-long solar park for Sunvest. Together with GWS Beveiliging, Kooi’s UFOs are securing this vast site.
“You can see that theft is no longer just an issue at solar parks under construction—existing parks are increasingly targeted too,” Ruben explains. “These are professional gangs who know exactly where to strike, making it a constant challenge to stay one step ahead.”
Complete Peace of Mind
On-site, the first UFOs already tower above the steel structures that will soon support the solar panels—more than 160,000 in total. Once operational, they will generate 86 megawatts of electricity annually, enough to power 30,000 households.
“We currently have 19 UFO Primes active here,” Ruben explains. ProfiNRG site manager Peter Bats appreciates the close contact with his dedicated point of contact. “Kooi truly takes care of everything, and that’s a huge relief.”
Ruben nods in agreement. “Everyone tells me how much they appreciate being completely taken care of. It gives them peace of mind—no sleepless nights. And that’s exactly what they want.”
Providing peace of mind comes naturally to Ruben, who once aspired to be a sports teacher. After studying Sports, Health, and Management, he began as a personal trainer for seniors but found true fulfillment at Kooi.
“With no sales experience, I was unsure at first, but after my interview, there was an instant connection,” he says. “The sales manager saw potential in me, recognizing my strong communication skills and hands-on approach. In the end, the Benelux manager said: "Give it a try.”

Maximizing Results
Ruben seized the opportunity with both hands. He thrives on the freedom of being on the road, visiting both existing and potential clients, while also enjoying time at the office. “Kooi has a relaxed atmosphere,” he says. “The Benelux team is young and enthusiastic, and there’s plenty of room for creativity. It’s truly lean working, where you stay engaged and do everything possible to achieve the best results for the client.”
Personal bond
At ProfiNRG, this personal approach clearly pays off—something Ruben invests in deliberately. “With so much client contact, I genuinely want to build strong relationships. I believe that when you connect with people personally, they’ll stay loyal customers for longer.”
