I enjoy really diving into something and figuring it out

Since November, Christa Vlaanderen (28) has strengthened Kooi’s team as an Application Administrator. In her role, she ensures that colleagues can work smoothly with the systems Kooi uses on a daily basis.

“Application management is very broad,” she explains. “You’re constantly switching between systems, processes and people. That’s exactly what I enjoy about it.”

From Facility Management to ICT

Christa studied Facility Management in Groningen. Not a direct ICT background, but according to her, the connection makes perfect sense.

“Facility Management is about adding value to the business, mainly through supporting processes and services. ICT is very much part of that. When systems work well, colleagues are happier. And ultimately, you help the entire organization move forward.”

Although Linda wasn’t specifically looking for Kooi, the first interview immediately felt right. “I had a really nice introductory conversation and after that, everything moved quickly. And now I’ve been working at Kooi for about a year and a half already!”

Systems that make work easier

Kooi works with multiple applications, ranging from financial systems to tools for quotations, contract management and planning. That’s exactly where Christa’s responsibilities lie.

“If someone gets stuck, something doesn’t work as expected, or a change is needed in the system setup, they come to us. We support our colleagues and make sure processes continue to run smoothly.”

No two days are the same. “The questions that come in vary every day.”

Working together without barriers

What stands out to her most is Kooi’s culture. “Everyone is open to questions. You can easily walk up to colleagues, and there isn’t a strict hierarchy. People genuinely want to help each other.”

Within the application management team, collaboration is strong as well. One colleague may have extensive knowledge of Inspire, while another specializes in analyses and queries. “We complement each other, learn from one another and support each other. That not only makes the work easier, but also more enjoyable.”

Why Kooi?

Kooi was not an unfamiliar name to Christa. “I already knew Kooi through people who had worked here before.”

When she was ready for a new challenge, she came across the vacancy. “I was looking for something new. This role at Kooi immediately appealed to me. There’s a lot happening here, many systems are involved, and because Kooi operates in multiple countries, there are different ways of working. That makes it an interesting puzzle.”

So if you enjoy challenges, problem-solving and collaborating in an organization that is constantly evolving, Kooi is definitely a great place to be.

Outside of work

Christa lives in Franeker with her boyfriend and their cat. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, going for walks and watching series.

A tip for job seekers

“Don’t wait until you know exactly what you want,” Christa says. “Just start somewhere. Along the way, you’ll discover what gives you energy and what doesn’t.”

According to her, Kooi is a great place for people who like to be challenged. “There’s always something happening, and you’re given the space to contribute ideas. If you enjoy problem-solving, collaboration and working in a company that keeps growing, you’ll fit right in.”
